About CatBasket

CatBasket is an independent UK website for cat owners. It covers what to buy, what a cat costs, breeds, health and rescue adoption, and every page is researched from published sources that we name, rather than from lab tests.

UK owners buy from different shops, insure through different companies and follow advice from UK charities and vets, so everything here is written for them: pound prices, UK retailers, UK insurance and UK veterinary guidance.

Who runs CatBasket?

CatBasket is a small independent publisher based in England. No pet retailer, insurer, food brand or manufacturer owns it or pays for coverage, and we don't publish sponsored posts. We do earn affiliate commissions on some purchases, explained below. The same small team runs a handful of other niche reference sites. You can reach the editor at [email protected]. How we research our guides

We don't run a testing lab and we don't claim to have tried every product we write about. Here is what each type of page is actually based on.

Buying guides and comparisons start from the manufacturer's own specifications: sizes, weight limits, battery life, microchip compatibility, what a subscription costs. We then read UK retailer listings and the reviews owners leave on them, looking for problems that come up again and again, such as a litter box that jams or a flap that stops reading chips. When a product has a common fault, the guide says so.

Health and care pages follow the published advice of UK vets and animal welfare charities, mainly PDSA, RSPCA, Cats Protection, International Cat Care, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA). Each page lists the sources it used at the bottom. These pages explain what the guidance says; they can't diagnose your cat, and they tell you when to phone a vet instead of reading further.

Breed guides draw on breed registry information, veterinary sources on inherited conditions, and UK kitten prices from breeder and rehoming listings.

Prices are checked at UK retailers such as Amazon UK, Pets at Home and Zooplus, and every page with prices says when they were checked. Prices change daily, so treat them as a guide and check the retailer before you buy. We don't copy Amazon star ratings or review counts onto the site.

We update pages when rules, prices or advice change. The date at the top of each guide shows when it was last checked. If you spot something out of date or wrong, email us and we will fix it.

How does CatBasket make money?

The site earns a commission when you buy through some of its links, and it shows Google ads. CatBasket is a member of the Amazon Associates Programme, which means we earn from qualifying purchases on Amazon UK. The price you pay doesn't change.

We choose what to recommend before adding links. If the best option is something we can't earn from, we still recommend it, and some guides point you to a free option or tell you not to buy anything at all. Pages with affiliate links say so near the top.
